What is Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

All hypnosis is self hypnosis, in other words a therapist will give you instructions to imagine things in a certain way and it is up to you to follow those instructions.

It is an altered state of consciousness into which you allow yourself to enter, with the guidance of a therapist. You are in control all the time, you always know what is happening, and you can come out of the altered state at any time in the same way one can snap out of a vivid daydream.

The hypnotic state can feel as if you are dreaming or daydreaming and is a natural form of consciousness which many people experience on a daily basis.

For example if you have ever been so absorbed in a book or a film it has felt as if you are actually there, that is a form of Hypnosis, as is the experience some people have when waking in the morning being aware of everything going on around them yet still being in a very relaxed dream like state.

Within the hypnotic state one can by-pass the barriers to our inner thoughts and feelings, and suggestions are acted upon much more powerfully than is possible in a normal state of mind.

Mental imagery can also be utilised to assist people to make changes in their lives. The subconscious mind does not distinguish between ´real` and imagined` experiences, which is why dreams can feel real.

This phenomenon can be used so that clients can create new positive realities for themselves or alter their perception of past events which may affect current behaviour.

There is also a growing body of scientific knowledge, psychoneuroimmunology, which is showing that the mind is directly linked to our immune systems, which means that techniques used in hypnotherapy can also affect our physical as well as psychological and spiritual well-being.

Can anybody be hypnotised ?

Yes, anyone can be hypnotised as long as they want to be and have an ability to concentrate. So it is not appropriate for very young children or people with certain mental disabilities or under the influence of drugs and alcohol. A hypnotherapist can not force you to go into hypnosis against your will.

How many sessions will I need?

On average Brian sees people 3-4 times, but sometimes more or less sessions are required. Hypnotherapy is an effective therapy but it also depends on your motivation and desire to change. Your hypnotherapist will want to help you in the minimum number of sessions possible. You and the hypnotherapist will review your progress so that at any time you can make a valued judgement about how the therapy is progressing.

How often will I need to see the hypnotherapist?

This depends on the type of problem and on the progress made. Your hypnotherapist will usually see you once a week. However some clients see the hypnotherapist once a fortnight or even once a month depending on their circumstances. The first session includes a free digitally mastered hypnotherapy recording for you to practise with. Please note the full fee may be liable unless a minimum of twenty four hours notice is given to cancel or rearrange appointments.

How Much Does It Cost?

Sessions with Brian last approx 1 hour and cost depends on the presenting issue (see top of page).

Cancellation Policy:

Standard 48 hours notice of change to appointment time.

50% fee if less than 48 hours notice.

100% fee if cancelled less than 24 hours notice.

Having said that we recognise that challenging situations sometimes occur in life and our priority is always to treat people fairly.

In the case of last minute rearranging please call the office as soon as you can.
